Afraid of Things That Go Bump in the Night?…

DyVrse members aren’t! Actually, we thought “The Lost Boys” (our feature presentation at this meeting) was hilarious. Special effects in the ’80s, there’s nothing like it! Other than watch this movie with MASSIVE bite, we chowed down on pizza, homemade brownies (thanks, haley!), and any other kind of junk food we could get our hands on! It was an exciting evening filled with laughs and groans. Everyone had a great time. But back to business, next Thursday during our regular meeting time, three of our members are going to go on a field trip of sorts to the Hispanic families’ PrimeTime for a reeactment of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. Wish us luck! The rest of the team will eat and chat about the next book topic, “The Uglies”.

DyVrse Teaches…

“A Computer Addict’s Nightmare”

For those of you not caught up in the DyVrse scene, last night from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. members of DyVrse spent their time teaching seniors how to set up email accounts, search things up on Google, or simply play games on their computers at home. Everyone had a great time and the students learned alot. There was even talk about having a monthly class… I don’t know, you’ll just have to tune in. :) Anyway, the fun continues… Next Thursday we’ll be enjoying a movie with bite! So come and join us. Free food and a good movie. Hope to see you all there!

A Culinary Hit!!

Congradulations to Kelvin, the winner of this week’s food contest! We had a great spread of dishes from around the globe. There was homemade cheesecake, chicken parmesan, 7 layer dip, and even squid and octopus! Everyone tasted and tested to see who had the best dish. The winner received a cookbook and is going to have his picture posted on the upcoming YA bookmarks. Bravo, Kelvin! Next week, we’re going to volunteer our time and technical skills to the seniors of our community. We’ll be setting up email accounts, surfing the internet, and answering general questions about the World Wide Web. Everyone’s welcome to come and volunteer and seniors are welcome to sign up or show up as a walk-in! Also, we’re still focusing on “The Plain Janes” so get caught up on your reading and join in on the discussion!

Get Well Soon…

This week’s meeting was pretty mellow. One of our group members is going in for surgery so we made get well soon cards for her. Hope they work! On a more professional note, do we have any cooks out there?? I hope so because there’s a cooking contest coming up on October 9th, and I’m hoping for a great turn out (I’m hungry!). There’ll be prizes for the best dish and fun for everyone so come on up to the TTCPL (Tifton-Tift County Public Library) and join in! Everyone’s welcome. Also, the book topic of the week… *drumroll please*… “The Plain Janes” by Cecil Castellucci. Not only is this book a graphic novel but it’s also about the horrors of high school in picture form! Forget trying to read the characters’ expressions… now you can actually SEE them! Double bonus! Don’t miss out on reading this book, check and see if your local library has a copy!
