Books That Bite!

For the month of October, our amazing T.A.G. decided on a “Books That Bite” theme that’s sure to win the hearts (and stomaches) of all who attend. The following is October’s agenda:

Teen Read Weeks October 9-23, 2008 “Books That Bite”

Week 1 (Oct. 9): Do you cook?? We hope so because this week we’re going to have a recipe contest. Make your favorite dish to perfection and bring it on into the TTCPL and you might win a prize. The winner of the contest will get their picture posted on the library’s bookmarks and in the Tifton Gazette along with an article written by DyVrse’s T.A.G.

Week 2 (Oct. 16): This week we’re promoting the “Books That Byte” theme. This theme includes not only recommended books for all the computer geeks among us but also community service. We will be helping the less “technologically educated” adults with 21st century inventions such as computers, internet, and this great thing called “email”. Hope you’re there to help tutor our tutors! Plus, to make things even cooler, we’re having an Ultimate Pacman Contest! Be there or be square!

Week 3 (Oct. 23): For this week, DyVrse is just gonna kick back and relax. We plan on chatting about our favorite supernatural books (a.k.a. vamps & those hairy beasties) and watch a seriously biting movie!

And the Next Book Is…

Hey DyVrse members! Just wanted to let everyone know that the next book that we’re going to be focusing on is “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” by Ann Brashares. Having already read the book several times, I can recommend it without regret. It’s a great book about 4 best friends that love each other like sisters but spend the summer apart. The only thing their summers have in common is a pair of denim pants. For anyone who has already seen the movies (GREAT, btw!), don’t spoil it and the book is better! See ya Thursday!

Breaking Dawn has Broken Out at TTCPL!

At midnight on August 2, 2008, members of DyVrse waited with bated breath and crossed fingers for the official release of our current book focus-Breaking Dawn (Book 4 in the Twilight Series) by Stephenie Meyer. Since then, Breaking Dawn has been in the hands of several of the DyVrse crew, thanks to the release party we had at the library at 2:00 p.m. which included brand-new Breaking Dawn book giveaways, bloody cupcakes, and various beasty crafts. We plan on talking a little bit about the book at our next meeting (August 14th). If you don’t already have a book of your own, there’s always the chance to reserve one at TTCPL or share the book with one of the other members in the group. ;)

Welcome to DyVrse!!

Hey everyone!!  Welcome to the DyVrse blog site.  In case you didn’t know, DyVrse is a young adult book club at the Tifton-Tift County Public Library that meets every Thursday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The program has gone on all summer long and the members decided that they wanted the fun to continue into the school year, too. To anyone interested in coming, DyVrse includes a little reading, a few talks, and a lot of fun (and food!). Everyone is welcome and we hope to see some new faces at our next meeting!
